Progress Update July 2025

Farming for a Sustainable Future

Our natural farms are more than just places to grow food; they are living laboratories of sustainability and community resilience. We want to provide you with a detailed look at the progress and challenges we’ve faced, and how your support helps us navigate them.

Mavadivembu Farm: Thriving Against the Odds

  • A Flourishing Harvest: We are happy to report that our vegetable crops—including capsicum, tomatoes, long beans, and snake gourd—are thriving. Our community’s hard work and dedication to natural farming methods are paying off with a bountiful harvest.
  • Sustainable Innovation: We are excited to announce a new initiative to cultivate 30 moringa trees. This project will not only introduce a highly nutritious crop but also establish a new, sustainable source of income for the community through the sale of the leaves.
  • The Earthworm Project: This small-scale project is yielding significant results. Our earthworms have begun to reproduce, creating a steady supply of rich, natural fertilizer. This successful breeding cycle is a major step toward long-term soil health and a more self-sufficient farm.

Thikiliveddai Farm: Resilience in the Face of Drought

  • Navigating Water Scarcity: The Thikiliveddai farm has been experiencing a significant shortage of water due to drought conditions. This has presented challenges, limiting our usual cultivation area.
  • Adapting Our Crops: To adapt, we focused on cultivating manioc, a hardy, drought-resistant crop. We expect to harvest it within 1.5 months, once the rains return.
  • Preparing for Full Swing: We are preparing for the rainy season to bring the farm back to full production. Our usual crops, such as banana, green leaves, and long beans, are ready to be planted, and we look forward to resuming the milking of our cows.

Nurturing Young Minds: The Symbiosophy Education Foundation

Your support extends beyond our farms and into the hearts of our community’s youth. Our educational programs are designed to provide well-rounded development, and we are proud to share their progress.

Skill Mastery: Whether through the discipline of Karate, the strategy of Chess, or the creative repurposing of materials in our Innovation class, these children are building a foundation for a brighter future.

  • Diverse Learning Opportunities: Our Saturday classes continue to be a source of diverse learning, with students actively engaged in everything from innovation and English to various extra-curricular activities.

  • A Passion for Chess: We have seen a keen increase in interest in our Friday Chess classes. It is inspiring to watch the children hone their strategic thinking and focus—skills that will benefit them for a lifetime. This growing enthusiasm highlights the importance of providing spaces where young minds can challenge themselves and develop patience and foresight through play.

  • Karate: Building Discipline and CharacterWe are proud to announce that our new Karate seminars began on August 9th. The students are training with incredible dedication for their upcoming gradings and certificate issuance on August 25th.We are also incredibly proud to announce that 26 students successfully completed their gradings with flying colors. Their hard work, discipline, and dedication paid off, and it was a joy to witness their progress. Each student demonstrated remarkable skill and focus, proving that with commitment, anything is possible. We are thrilled to celebrate this milestone with them and look forward to seeing them continue their martial arts journey.

Thank you for being a part of this journey. Your generous donations make all of this possible, empowering us to build a more resilient and vibrant community.

Cultivating a Greener Future: Our Partnership in Valaichenai

We were proud to partner with Green Fire – Sri Lanka to host a Free Home Garden Sapling Distribution and Guidance Workshop on August 12, 2025, at the Koralaipattu Central Divisional Secretariat in Valaichenai.

The event successfully empowered over 25 home garden beneficiaries, who received more than 200 saplings to help them start or expand their own gardens. Our team also participated in a collaborative discussion, sharing ideas and offering guidance on how to strengthen and promote sustainable home gardening practices to overcome common challenges.

The success of this workshop was a true community effort. We’d like to extend our sincere thanks to the Divisional Secretariat staff and the dedicated team at Green Fire – Sri Lanka for their hard work. Their commitment, along with the enthusiasm of all the participants, made this event a resounding success. Together, we’re not just planting seeds—we’re cultivating a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future for the community.

We were also happy to support the next generation of farmers and environmentalists at Oddamavadi Central College National School in Oddamavadi.

Upon their request, our team at Green Fire was able to contribute approximately 75 saplings to their school’s greenhouse. The donation included a mix of aloe vera, scotch bonnet, and tomato crops, providing students with a hands-on opportunity to learn about cultivation and sustainable practices. We are proud to play a small part in fostering their passion for agriculture and look forward to seeing their greenhouse flourish.

Supporting Local Artisans: Coconut Tree Logos Delivered for Export

We’re thrilled to share a recent achievement that highlights the talent and hard work of our community. A new order of handcrafted coconut tree logos was completed and delivered by Batti Women’s Crafts for export.

This project is a testament to the incredible skill of these local artisans and their dedication to their craft. It not only provides them with a sustainable income but also showcases their unique work to an international market. We are proud to support these women in their entrepreneurial journey and look forward to seeing their beautiful creations reach people around the world.

We are grateful for the overwhelming support from the community and our dedicated team who have made these programs a reality.
